Liminal Group

Scudder Fowler is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Liminal Group. Earlier he led new business development initiatives at Semaphore Partners, the marketing technology arm of $4.5B advertising and communications holding firm, Publicis. Before Semaphore, he managed the New York sales division of a world-leading executive conference company. Scudder is responsible for strategic relationships and business development. He holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia University.

Dr. Zbigniew BrzezinskiDr. Brzezinski is a trustee and counselor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is a professor of American foreign policy at the School of Advanced International Studies, the Johns Hopkins University, Washington, D.C. He is co-chair of the American Committee for Peace in Chechnya. Earlier, he was a member of the Policy Planning Council of the Department of State from 1966 to 1968; chairman of the Humphrey Foreign Policy Task Force in the 1968 presidential campaign; director of the Trilateral Commission from 1973 to 1976; and principal foreign policy adviser to Jimmy Carter in the 1976 presidential campaign. From 1977 to 1981, Dr. Brzezinski was national security adviser to President Carter. In 1981 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in the normalization of U.S.-Chinese relations and for his contributions to the human rights and national security policies of the United States. He was also a member of the President's Chemical Warfare Commission (1985); member of the NSC-Defense Department Commission on Integrated Long-Term Strategy (1987-1988); and member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (1987-1989). In 1988, he was co-chairman of the Bush National Security Advisory Task Force. Dr. Brzezinski received a B.A. and M.A. from McGill University (1949, 1950) and Ph.D. from Harvard University (1953). He has been a member of the faculty of Columbia University (1960-1989) and Harvard University (1953-1960). Dr. Brzezinski holds honorary degrees from Georgetown University, Williams College, Fordham University, College of the Holy Cross, Alliance College, the Catholic University of Lublin, Warsaw University, and Vilnius University. Dr. Brzezinski is the recipient of numerous honors and awards.

Michael is the Director of Technology for Liminal Group. With more than ten years of technology consulting experience, Michael has successfully delivered enterprise and interactive solutions to several Fortune 1000 companies. Michael is responsible for the design and support of the technical infrastructure for Liminal Group.

James Byrne is a Strategic Marketing and Communications specialist with over twenty years of marketing, branding and public relations experience having spearheaded the leading national and global marks such as World Wrestling Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, The Coca-Cola Company USA, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Carsey-Werner, Fruit of the Loom and Proctor & Gamble. Byrne’s in-depth experience, his creativity, strong media and industry relationships, along with an enviable PR track record are what make him a highly sought-after consultant. Mimicking his earlier client-side success, Byrne remains highly-focused, working closely with senior managements of just a handful of clients at a time at his marketing consultancy firm, Glory of Commerce. Byrne directs this boutique New York City marketing agency that provides strategy, planning and communication services for Saatchi & Saatchi EMEA, Sony Pictures Classics and a few online startups. His work also places him in close contact with all the major networks and the relevant senior programming executives. His success with specific clients has been noted by Salon.com, 60 Minutes and The New York Times. “With WWE and UFC it may appear I was able to get lightening to strike twice in the same spot but in fairness, I merely recognized they were both ‘aces’ before other folks and heavily leveraged that,” Byrne has said. Prior to forming Glory of Commerce, he was the senior-most marketing executive for The World Wrestling Entertainment Company of Stamford, Connecticut and before that, The Carsey-Werner Company, LLC based in Studio City, California. Steeped in Packaged Goods Advertising: From September 1984 to June 1991, at the start of his career in the mid-eighties, his work in advertising included the Procter & Gamble businesses at Wells Rich Greene as an account executive and at McCann-Erickson in the same capacity on the national Coca-Cola account. A graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Byrne is on the advisory board of a private elementary school in the South Bronx and a volunteer NYPD Auxiliary member. He works and resides in Manhattan.

Paul CharronMr. Charron is the CEO of Liz Claiborne. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Charron served in various executive capacities at VF Corporation, an apparel manufacturer, including Group Vice President and Executive Vice President, from 1988. Mr. Charron also serves as a director of Campbell Soup Company and on a number of not-for-profit boards, including the National Retail Federation, the American Apparel & Footwear Association, the Fair Labor Association, Vital Voices Global Partnership and the Partnership for New York.

As Motorola Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Connected Home Solutions. Barry James led the Home Mobility Solutions business unit, overseeing a very talented team that was responsible for a next-generation Set Top Box, codenamed ICEbox. Additionally, he was a strategic advisor to the CEO and served on the Corporate Marketing Council, Microsoft/Motorola Partnership Board, and Co-Chaired the Content and Services Council. Additionally Barry James was Executive Sponsor for several strategic relationships including Sony, Google, Yahoo, Sling, Sony Pictures, ABC/Disney, NBC/U and Movielink (Blockbuster).


As President and CEO of PlaceWare, Barry James's team pioneered the Web Conferencing category and was one of the fastest growing private companies in Silicon Valley. At Exodus, he drove a singular focus on Internet Data Centers, reducing the sales cycle and increasing sales approximately 400% in seven months.


Barry James was previously President of Spectrum HoloByte, an electronic entertainment company, which grew in one year from $13M to $70M, helped by the strategic acquisition of Microprose. He also led the turnaround of Radius, Inc., as President and CEO, growing revenues 47% in 12 months.


Barry James was a Sun executive during its four-year hyper-growth from $100M to $1.7B. As GM of Sun's 386i start up East Coast Division, he built the team and its ease-of-use culture. In the early '80s, Barry James was named Digital Electronics Corporations first Entrepreneur of the Year for taking the DEC Rainbow PC line to market and $300M of revenues.


Barry James has a BS Electrical Engineering and a MS Computer Science from Georgia Tech. He serves on Georgia Tech's College of Computing Advisory Board and Intel's Digital Home Consumer Board of Advisors. He has been a mentor for Women's Unlimited, a leadership development company for executive women.

Joyce RocheJoyce M. Roché is President and Chief Executive Officer of Girls Incorporated, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowered girls and an equitable society. Before joining Girls Inc., Roché served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Carson Products Company, and Vice President of Global Marketing at Avon Products, Inc. During her tenure at Carson, an African American personal care company, sales increased over 130 percent. While at Avon, Roché broke new ground, becoming Avon's first African American female vice president, the first African American vice president of marketing, and the company's first vice president of global marketing. Roché has received widespread acclaim for numerous achievements in the business world. David RoseDavid S. John RipleyColonel John W. Ripley is a revered Marine Corps legend, one of the most decorated Marines of the Vietnam War, and an acclaimed authority on performance under extreme adversity. Col. Ripley, a U.S. Marine combat commander, who also commanded British Royal Marine Commandos in combat, single-handedly blew up the Dong Ha bridge in Vietnam, thus blunting the largest North Vietnamese Army offensive (the 1972 Easter Offensive) of the Vietnam War. Jennifer Demello is the Director of Event Production for Liminal Group. For the past eight years, Jennifer has been the Director of Programs for Town Hall Los Angeles, one of the top speaker forums in the nation. There she managed a staff of five in order to produce over 50 events per year featuring many celebrated political and cultural personalities. At Liminal, Jennifer will be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of our live event programs, including logistical planning, staffing, budget allocation, and the procurement of local sponsors and media partners. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine and her Masters degree in Latin American Studies at UCLA. Jennifer is also fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Halina Babkova is Vice President of Operations for Liminal Group. For the past three years, Halina has provided planning and guidance for the administration and operation of the company and has supervised all event marketing and production, vendor and sponsor relations. Reporting directly to the CEO on all pertinent matters related to the operations of the company, she also provides leadership to departmental Directors in the development and implementation of departmental objectives and annual goals.

As a native of Russia, Halina is fluent in three languages and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in marketing from The Zichlin School of Business at Baruch College.

Jason Kichline is the Director of Media for Liminal and in charge of producing video content for the three areas of Liminal Group's core business: Live web broadcasts, on-demand Media Library, and videos relevant to the PR and marketing of the faculty and our events. Jason holds over fifteen years experience in the video industry and is in charge of managing all our production staff and media technology partners. Jason is the Emmy award-winning producer of the web-television series Reporting AIDS, and has produced and directed an award-winning keynote documentary for the 2008 Health 2.0 conference. Jason received his B.A. from Temple University in 2005 in Film and Media Arts and obtained his M.A. in Media Studies from The New School in Manhattan in 2008.

Prior to Joining Liminal, Linda Munn enjoyed a distinguished career in financial services with a special focus on marketing and product positioning. Linda is an expert in both personal and corporate branding at the most senior levels. In 2002 she co-founded Hedgepros LLC, a strategy and marketing planning consulting firm specializing in hedge funds and service providers. At Bear Stearns, Linda headed up a team that focused on helping the firm deal with the challenges and opportunities presented by industry consolidation. While the firm had a 75-year heritage and a strong trading culture, the silo businesses were prevailing and there was no consistent presentation of the firm's capabilities, principles and accomplishments. Linda spearheaded positioning research to gain an understanding of the market places perception and acceptability of a credible communication platform resulting in a firm-wide corporate graphic and messaging system. In the 1990s, Linda worked at Kidder, Peabody where her team focused on core segments of the affluent market, mini-institutions and their diverse range of investment needs. By leveraging Kidder Peabody's "best in class" banking image, Linda's team helped create a premiere image among high net worth investors for the firm. As Vice President and manager of the Investor Development Group at EFHutton, Linda learned that marketing in a sales driven organization is not only understanding the importance of who the market is and what they are willing to buy, but what the salesmen are willing and able to sell. She pioneered a cutting edge Wall Street branding campaign that incorporated a careful balance of push/pull strategies focusing on what differentiates organizations with sales forces from traditional manufacturers with products made for the shelf. Linda also initiated and designed multi-faceted campaigns to fit the information needs of both internal and external targets. Linda graduated from Brown University, and began her career at McCann Erickson, a subsidiary agency of Interpublic, where she learned the ins and outs of media planning and buying. Two years later, she joined Doyle Dane Bernbach and moved from media to account management, where she managed the communications objectives for several major accounts including Citicorp, Ponderosa Steakhouses, and Wrangler Blue Jeans.

Christina Boris is Chief Marketing Officer of Liminal Group and is responsible for all marketing initiatives at the company. Christina began her career in sales and marketing at Merrill Lynch. She later migrated to market research and branding and has worked with clients in nearly every industry. Prior to joining Liminal, Christina founded The Marketing Exchange, Inc., a boutique marketing consultancy serving clients in New York City.
